Milk prevents the creation of acid in the stomach and provides a soothing effect. You may have a glass full of cold milk with your breakfast or after every meal to avoid heartburn or acidity.
Basil leaves, known for their medicinal properties, offer instant relief from acidity and heart burn. You may either chew raw basil leaves or boil 3 or 4 leaves in a glass of water. Make sure you boil these thoroughly for about 15 minutes. Consuming dried and crushed basil leaves with water also soothes the stomach and provides relief from acidity.

Consuming 3-4 almonds after each meal also helps in avoiding acidity. It is best to keep some of these nutritious nuts handy and have them after every snack and meal. However, do not have too many as excessive consumption of almonds may cause heartburn.
Taking big bites and eating hastily also causes acidity. This is because your stomach does not get enough time to digest the food properly and push out surplus acid. So it is essential to eat slowly giving your stomach time to digest. Also avoid oily and spicy food as they cause heartburn and acidity.
Avoid Lying Down After a Meal
Lying down immediately after meal can cause acidity. It is recommended not to lie down within 3 hours of having your meal. Also those suffering from acidity should elevate their head around 5-6 inches by using extra pillows while sleeping.
Besides these, buttermilk, cinnamon, cloves, amla, coconut water, mint leaves and fennel can also help in curing acidity.
