8 Effective Home Remedies for Cold

A blocked nose can give you sleepless nights and a running nose can worsen your condition further. While you may be taking medicines prescribed by your physician to fight this condition, a few home remedies for cold mentioned here may help come handy too.

Warm Fluids

Drink warm water at regular intervals throughout the day to cure cold. You may add a few drops of lemon and honey to make it more effective. Consuming plentiful water keeps your body hydrated and drains out the infection.

Ginger tea can work wonders to tackle your running nose. Adding a few tulsi leaves in the preparation helps in speeding up the recovery process.

Inhale Steam

Inhaling steam is one of the simplest home remedy to ease blocked nose. Hold your head at a safe distance over a bowl of boiling hot water. Cover your head with a towel in a way that you only get to inhale the steam and not the fresh air around. Inhale the steam for 1 or 2 minutes. If you feel uncomfortable at any time during the process then remove the towel for a while and inhale the steam through your mouth. Repeat the mentioned procedure after a few seconds. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil, rosemary or tea tree oil for a more soothing effect.

Mustard Oil

Applying mustard oil on chest, back and feet helps in fighting cold. Inhaling its strong aroma also helps in curing this condition. To make it more effective heat the oil and add some minced garlic to it.

Steamy Shower

It is suggested to take a hot water bath or a steamy shower in this condition as it helps in moistening your nasal passage thereby offering relief.

Adequate Rest
