Ram Ladoos are very popular street food from the North of India, especially Delhi. They are amazingly light and fluffy, with a crisp exterior, topped with spicy chutney and fresh radish. Can be served as a party/chaat snack in any party.

  • 150 grams Moong Dal (washed)
  • 50 grams Chana Dal
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 1 Green Chilli (de-seeded)
  • 1 pinch Hing
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • 3 cups Oil (for deep frying)
  • 1 Radish (grated)
  • 4 tablespoons Spicy Green Chutney


  1. Wash both the dals and soak them together overnight.
  2. Next morning, drain in a sieve.

  3. Place in a mixie jar.

  4. Add ginger, green chilli, cumin seeds and hing.

  5. Grind to a coarse paste without adding any water.

  6. However, if having difficulty in grinding, add 1 or 2 teaspoons of water and grind.

  7. Remove it into a deep bowl.

  8. Add salt as per taste.

  9. With a wired whisk or an electric beater, whisk the batter for at least 5 minutes.

  10. This makes the batter light and fluffy.

  11. Heat the oil for frying in a thick bottom pan on low flame.

  12. To check the correct temperature of the oil, drop a little of the batter.

  13. If it comes up almost instantly, the oil is ready.

  14. Take a spoonful of batter with wet fingers and drop in the hot oil.

  15. Fry a few wadas at a time till golden brown and crisp.

  16. Keep the flame low to medium so that they get fried right to the center.

  17. Ready all the wadas similarly.

  18. To serve, arrange a few ready wadas in a plate.

  19. Top it with a little of the chutney and garnish with the grated radish.
