6 Natural Ways To Remove Tartar On Teeth

Do you see your once pearly white teeth covered in a firm film of ugly yellow? If yes, that’s tartar on your teeth. Plaque is a common problem with people who do not observe a good oral hygiene. Plaque is a sticky film that builds up on your teeth, dental fillings, gums, tongue and dentures. Multiple layers of this plaque if untreated slowly turns into tartar.

Not only tartar makes your teeth look ugly, but it can create a breeding ground for the oral bacteria that feed on sugar from the food you eat. The acid produced in this process breaks down the tooth enamel, leads to dental cavities and produces toxins that cause gum problems like gingivitis and periodontitis.

The most common factors that lead to plaque build up include improper oral hygiene, inefficient brushing, poor food choices, hereditary and lack of professional care. In order to prevent the building up of plaque and tartar on teeth,  you must:

  • Brush your teeth with a fluoridated toothpaste at least twice a day, especially after meals.
  • Clean your mouth thoroughly with water after partaking dairy products and sugar based foods.
  • Clean your tongue too, as a dirty tongue can lead to bacteria build up.
  • Use dental floss regularly to clean teeth and gums.
  • Consume plenty of fruits rich in Vitamin C, and munching on fruits like apples, figs, musk melons, and vegetables like carrots, celery stick, etc.
  • Avoid eating foods with starch and sugar as they promote the growth of bacteria in the mouth. Also, to avoid junk food.
  • Drink 2-3 liters of water to wash out any food articles in the mouth.
  • Avoid smoking and chewing tobacco as they help accumulation of tartar on teeth and gums.

Now, see this is all about preventing plaque. But, what if you already have a stubborn build up of tartar on teeth? You should see a dentist. Professional teeth cleaning can help with removing the plaque and tartar that normal brushing and flossing can’t.
